“The Road“by Cormac McCarthy is a powerful novel based on the starvation, survival, struggles and love between the main characters (the boy and the man). In this book peculiar events at night are portrayed in depth with a secret meaning behind it. The dream sequences. In these dreams many abnormal events happen maybe to convey a hidden meaning to the reader. “In dreams his pale bride came to him out of the green and leafy canopy. Her nipples pipeclayed and her rib bones painted white. She wore a dress of gauze and her dark hair was carried up in combs of shell. Her smile, her downturned eyes.” This dream is the first illustration of the significance of the man’s dream but also of his feelings towards his dead wife. While it is not completely clear what this dream means, there are some elements that can be pulled from it. There is a monster, but it seems uninterested in hurting the man and the child. This may be a premonition that even though there is evil all around them in this uncivilized world, somehow, the two of them will be protected from it. On the other hand, we know that the man thinks that bad dreams are a sign of facing the truth while good dreams are a bad sign because it means you are not living in reality. Before killing herself, the man's wife claims that he doesn't face reality. Perhaps this dream is a warning that he needs to start taking the dangers around him a little more
