The Growth of America America’s industrialization did not just happen on its own. Many workers and business people contributed to the growth of America ,but three men made significant impacts. These three men were Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie. Vanderbilt led to the expansion of the railroad industry. Rockefeller led the advancement of oil refining and Carnegie progressed the way steel was manufactured. These nineteenth century industrialists were captains industry because they contributed greatly to the rise of the United States. Vanderbilt was the largest U.S. steamboat operator throughout his early years ,and he later became the king of the railroad industry. Vanderbilt launched a steamboat service that transported citizens from New york to San Francisco. This proves that he was a captain of industry because he helped the country out during war. Next, he made trading and traveling more efficient because of his large amount of rail routes. Rockefeller made oil refining and oil transportation easier than ever. The film, “Oil Strike” states that Rockefeller called his business “Standard Oil” because he guaranteed an uniform quality of kerosene. The product, kerosene, was often known to cause fires. Standard Oil was known to be the purest and safest kerosene there was. To continue, this allowed citizens to have safe ways of using light. He created a clean ,refined oil that led to America’s industrialization. Next, he created pipelines which were used to transport oil. These pipelines were long enough to move oil over miles of land. Even today they are still used. Rockefeller industrialized the entire oil
