Upon my first visit to Cornerstone, I had no clue what class I was signing up for. Being the first in my family to college I was afraid but still curious about what was ahead of me. The class intrigued me but I didn't close my mind to, it yet. I was curious as what we would possibly discuss that I hadn't already heard from dozens of high school teachers about how terrible college is and that they don't care about you. After coming to this course I discovered it was the exact opposite. The three things I found most influential was time management, goal setting, and self-wellness. These three topics stuck out the most to me because they truly helped me adjust to college. The first most influential topic to me discussed this semester was time management. In class I learned using time management helps destroy procrastination and doing things last minute. One thing stressed in cornerstone was planners and scheduling homework and times to study. In the beginning of the semester, I struggled in cornerstone because there was a large amount of work due on different dates. I started using a planner after the time management discussion and I was able to turn the assignments in on time. This not only helped me in cornerstone but helped me in other classes. I discovered that in college that goal setting is very important if I want to get things done. I discovered in cornerstone that short-term goals are important for providing motivation for the current moment or the near future. Long-term goals are goals I set to achieve a couple years for now such as going to graduate school. I learned it's something that should be realistic and achievable. Another idea discussed in goal setting is smart goals. A smart goal is something that must be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. With this, it helped me make sure I held myself accountable for both my short-term and long-term
