In Corpse Bride, the storyteller uses the archetypes underworld and hero’s journey plot line to show how we as humans need to make and realize our mistakes to grow and mature as people because we learn from those mistakes so that in the future we make less and less mistakes and also know how to fix the ones we make. At the beginning of Corpse Bride, Victor was very clumsy and made many mistakes because he didn’t take the time to really recognize and think about his mistakes. When Victor goes over to Victoria’s house he wanders over to the piano instead of following his parents. Victoria’s parents are quite angry when they find Victor and Victoria together. During the wedding practice Victor continued to make mistakes, such as not being able to say his vows, and didn’t take the time to really try and fix them. This lead him to wander into the forest. This shows the very beginning of the theme being developed where we need to make mistakes. He completes his journey and proves that he has, in fact, matured from learning about his mistakes. When Victor returns to the land of the living for the second time, it’s to marry Emily properly to try and make up for his mistakes. While at the wedding, Emily decides that she’s stealing someone else’s love and calls off the ceremony. Victor finally agrees with her and is reunited with Victoria. This shows how the theme has developed to the final theme. We as humans need to realize our mistakes so that we may make up for them and not hurt people. Victor returned from the underworld and has completed his journey. He has helped “free” Emily and found love with Victoria.
Throughout Corpse Bride, we watch Victor make many mistakes. He did end up hurting people, however, he ended making up for those mistakes and tried to stitch back the relationships with the people he
