His use of examples of influential celebrities and textual evidence portrayed his ideology of villain actions in two different settings. He described a villain as one who hurts others through emotional manipulation by ridiculing one self’s image and reputation to gain relevance throughout the world. This is relatable to my point of view because of my personal cyber bullying story. Moreover, this led to another villain that steals materialistic objects to have a financial gain. Klosterman conveys his argument in a coherent way which allows me to connect with him in agreement with his definition of what a villain is.
In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible (1953), he shows the corruptness of the courts and their influence on the decisions of Abigail Williams. Abby was just a girl, she loved to pretend. She and the other girls of Salem loved it, they danced in the woods and pretended to be witches. That is until they were found by Reverend Parris, after which two girls pretended to be bewitched because they were afraid of the consequences. About twenty years ago, before Twilight and the modern version of Dracula played by Orlando Bloom, vampires were always depicted as the evils of society and commonly represented as the lower chains of the social class that acted as parasites to the upper and middle classes. According to Lane’s article, “There Goes the Neighborhood,” she explains how a book written in the mid-1950’s called I Am Legend, depicts the vampires in the story as the low-class colored people of society. Because of the lower class being represented as the evil monsters of society, they were resented and discriminated against. But recently, vampires are now categorized as the rich and white upper-class people.
When someone has committed a crime, they are put on trial and they go through the motions of the judicial system. In 12 Angry Men, Reginald Rose creates a play that displays the judicial system in its truest form. It tells the story of the jury, as they have to come to a unanimous verdict of whether the defendant is guilty, innocent, guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, of murder. The main conflict that the jurors face in the play is whether to charge him as guilty or not. Through the conflict in the book, the flaws in the justice system are illustrated and reasonable doubt appears.

In the novel by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus, we are introduced to Victor Frankenstein a scientist that aspires to create a creature, which later he achieves. Throughout the novel, the theme is well developed and takes the reader through Victor and the creature's point of view showing the reader a clear picture of the dynamic between the two. The story shows the reader who constantly seeks power will cause destruction upon himself or others. Victor wants to discover more but is only doing the discoveries and achievements for the sake of fame.
In Aldous Huxley’s novel “Brave New World” the world has fallen into an authoritarian order, of which control is kept through constant distraction and suppression of information. Though through this remains communities of “savages” who reject the new world order and have continued more traditional human life in reservations. Over the past century, Frankenstein has been analyzed and interpreted in seemingly infinite different forms of literature, film, and television shows. Once solely recognized as the story about a brilliant scientist who creates a creature in whom he regrets making after the creature turns out ugly, Frankenstein now represents an internationally recognized and commercialized pop culture symbol for Halloween decorations and costumes. When analyzing and appreciating the true literary essence behind Mary Shelley’s original Frankenstein, one of the most important comparisons to consider remains the underlying influences behind the Creature’s immoral actions and whether or not the blame for these actions belong to Victor or the Creature. When exploring the dichotomy of the Creature versus Victor Frankenstein, one of the biggest and most widely debated questions remains whether Victor should be blamed for the Creature’s destructive actions or if the Creature should be considered guilty for his actions based off of his own free will. Many consider Victor Frankenstein the villain of the story due to his repetitive decisions to abandon and avoid his own “mistake,” the irresponsible choice of creating the monster in the first place, and his obvious negligence of the Creature’s feelings.
Eventually, the stereotypes made by society lead the creature to become who they think he is. Frankenstein paints a bleak picture of how society’s stereotyping leads to segregation and suffering with the creature’s journey through life. The society of Frankenstein makes a stereotype based on a single premise, his appearance, and chooses to discriminate and segregate Victor’s creation. This discrimination is evident when “the children shrieked and one of the women fainted.
Power, the one thing everybody desires, plays a major role in the lives of the characters of Frankenstein. Throughout the story, Shelley frequently emphasizes the theme of power and the constant struggle that the characters face to gain power over themselves and others. The two main characters, Victor Frankenstein and The Creature, show the most struggle for power throughout the story, both internally and over each other. They look to gain power of knowledge, power of themselves and power over one another. This struggle for power creates a constantly shifting dynamic amongst characters.
It is my belief that society is the true ‘monster’ in the novel, and that it is through our experiences and interactions with society that shapes us into the person that we become. Because of the creatures experiences with abandonment, abuse, rejection, and lack of nurture, the creature turns from an innocent soul into a murderous monster. Society plays a huge role in the destruction of both the creature and Victor. When Victor first leaves for ignostalt he believes that “he will be unfit for the company of man.”
To fit in the role of a tragic hero the character must show heroic actions, have a flaw, have an increase in knowledge, and the audience must have sympathy for them. Many novels include a tragic hero further the plot of the novel or the play. Many tragic heroes do not only have a heroic characteristics, but they can also have villainous characteristics based on what the character considers as heroic. In Mary Shelley’s gothic novel Frankenstein, Shelley illustrates the theme of appearances vs. reality to embody the tragic hero in the creature. Through the use of chaotic imagery, fluid characterization, and critical diction, Shelley comments on how society rejects others based on their appearance therefore themselves creating the monster.
