People often believe that society corrupts, but it is not society that corrupts them. The evil itself is what truly corrupts mankind. Evil has existed since the beginning of time with Adam and Eve and the temptation of the snake in the Garden of Eden. Similarly, mankind battles with the sinfulness of evil. In literature, authors illustrate this evil through greedy, lustful, gluttonous and even power-hungry characters who corrupt themselves and build conflicts for others. One perfect example of this is William Golding’s “The Lord of Flies.” William Golding uses setting to prove that society does not corrupt the people, it keeps them in check. Jack was the first one focused, but then that influenced people to join the hunt. The island is isolated away from society, thus making Ralph try to help society in the
