Counseling is a field that thrives on opportunities for influence, empowerment, and meaningful work. As a school counselor, I will be responsible for positively influencing the trajectory of a student’s life. I am driven by the opportunity to address issues within the field of education and make a difference for future generations. Specifically, I am passionate about making an impact on the lack of emphasis placed on the resources available to students within the field of education. This lack of awareness of resources causes students to limit their educational and professional goals, inevitably marginalizing a large student population. Evidently, this issue is of great significance as it serves as a means to achieve equity in a system plagued with issues impacting underrepresented student populations.

This includes providing all students with resources such as financial aid, tutoring, career services, and introducing them to organizations that will further their paths to success. Moreover, I will also heavily focus on pushing social welfare programs that work closely with students experiencing extraordinary circumstances such as abusive households, homelessness, teen pregnancy, and substance abuse. Acknowledging and reinforcing all available resources has the potential to change the outlook of future generations by adequately supporting students with the issues presented. It is essential to delineate the impact of stereotypical narratives on marginalized communities to ensure that a student population is able to thrive beyond the school setting.
