The songs I chose are all very popular country songs by well-known country artists. The first song is “Where the Green Grass Grows” by Tim McGraw. This song is about the artist experiences living a rural lifestyle and described the country as a place where the green grass grows. The song notes on farming life in particular by referencing corn growing. The song brings themes of nature and purity through the explanation of the land that identifies as country. The second song I chose was by a catchy country hit known as “ Rain is a Good Thing” by an extremely successful country singer Luke Bryan. The song is about the life of a farmer in the country and the struggles and accomplishments of living in rural landscapes. This song takes more of an ecological standpoint and focuses on the environment and dependency of the land rather than more a social outlook. For instance, this song notes the challenges and downfalls of living a farmer lifestyle. Through the lyrics “My daddy spent his life lookin’ up at the sky, He’d cuss kick the dust, sayin’ son its way to dry” notes how the community spends most of their days relent on the rain and the negative impact that this can have on one's lives. In comparison to the city, the lyrics “It clouds up in the city, the weather man complains.” Notes how the two communities differentiate between weather. Cities economies are more business and market based whereas rural communities are strongly based on agricultural income and growth. Overall, I think this song depicts the true life of farmers in rural communities and the challenges that they are faced with for having the careers in
