Motivations are things that can cause many actions and feelings. Percy Jackson and Grover from Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief conquer their feelings of uncertainty by having their own motivations. In Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Percy Jackson and his friend Grover, have different and similar motivations that cause them to take action in difficult situations. In Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Grover and Percy are similar in the way that they both want to save the world and return the symbols of power to their respective gods.

”(142). This quote was from Lightning Thief. “Usually there is a discovery, some event, or some danger that starts them on a heroic path” This quote comes from Hero’s Journey, stage: “Call for Adventure”. I think these two quotes align together because Percy needs to retrieve what was stolen.
Percy Jackson and the lightning thief is about the offspring of poseidon and a mortal, going on a quest with his friends to find Zeus’ missing lightning bolt. The bolt went missing and Percy Jackson is accused of taking it. This is an excellent book that was made into a film. Though the film was good it was very different from the book.
Percy’s sword is a symbol of justice against the forces of evil. It is also a symbol that shows he is the son of Poseidon. In the book it says. His sword is also loyal to him, because no matter what, his sword returns back to him. In the book it says, “I felt my pen return to my pocket, but Antaeus wouldn’t know that.
Percy Jackson, The main character in the Lightning Thief is following the path of a hero in “The hero's Journey. Percy does not believe he is ordinary which scares him because he thinks other people don't either but he fights through it. He now goes to half blood camp with other non ordinary people he wants to be normal but he was born with a god being his father so he got half of his father's power and he is a son of one of the most powerful gods. That god is poseidon the god of water it self.
Courage is strength in the face of pain or grief. To be courageous you can’t be scared of danger or pain. In the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry there are several characters who have demonstrated an enormous amount of courage. For example, Mr. Morrison hurts the Wallace’s and
“You will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honor” said Aristotle. Courage is an act of bravery one does that is frightening yet they still persevere. Courage is found in many different situations in the modern world like in members of our military, law enforcement, and many others ordinary people performing courageous acts to help better our society. Everyone wants to have courage since whether in music, Hollywood movies, fairytales, or books we are told courage is one of the most important attributes that can turn an ordinary person into a hero.
One of the characters I like in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is Percy because he is very brave and stands up to villains like Hades. For example, when Percy travels to the underworld to recover Zeus’s master lightning bolt with Annabeth and Grover and they don’t have enough pearls for all of them to leave, he says, “No I’ll stay in the underworld. It was my mission and I’m done, You guys go” (330). This shows that he is not only brave but also selfless because he is offering to stay with the god of the underworld, who doesn’t like him. Percy considers offering a pearl to his mom.
People might describe a hero as someone with bravery and courage. Some might say a hero might be a strong soldier and leader. Others may define a hero as someone who uses his mind as much as strength to win. Odysseus is portrayed as a hero because he shows many heroic traits. Odysseus shows a lot of courage, which is what lots of other “heroes” have.
Throughout “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan, the main character Percy Jackson grows in many ways. Through application of Joseph Campbell’s Hero Cycle, Percy’s development as a leader over the course of “The Lightning Thief” can be analyzed (Campbell). Percy is born into the hero’s cycle at his natural birth and his call to adventure is the attack by Mrs. Dodds. Percy crosses the threshold, when he leaves Montauk with his mother and Grover and the first trial testing his leadership is on the bus with the furies. Trials exemplifying Percy’s growth include: the furies, Medusa, the Saint Louis Arch, the “Waterland” Waterpark, the Lotus Hotel, Crusty’s Waterbed Palace, and Hades and the Underworld.
The Odyssey by Homer follows the story of a man who left his family to go fight a war in Troy; with the help of his smart decisions and the help of others around him he finds himself having a very successful homecoming after 20 years of being gone. Odysseus, the hero of The Odyssey, is a very cunning man who knows how to get away with anything, with escaping from a cyclops to following orders. In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy has been knocked unconscious after she is locked out of her storm cellar, she awakens not in Kansas, but rather MunchkinLand; Dorothy is confused in the colorful wonderland she has woken from, she wishes to go home and Glinda the Good Witch gives her the advice of following the yellow brick road to the Wizard, the Wizard will help her
Percy showed a lot of courage when he accepted the quest to face all of the monsters.it takes courage to accept the challenge to go out into the world and fight the monsters. ” do you miss being on the quest” luke asked percy after his quest, “what, with monsters attacking me every meter.” There are clearly lots of monsters on the quest because when annabeth said “so far so good, ten miles and no monster attakces” she sounded a bit surprised and glad but also worried that there were lots of monsters waiting for them around every corner. Percy showed lots of courage and so did annabeth but annabeth also showed determination. annabeth showed determination to want to go on a quest.
(Plato, 77) From this statement brought about a whole conversation about what courage is or more specifically, what courage isn’t. Using the Socratic Method, Socrates, Laches, and Nicias
