Courage Used In Description Of Thumos

The word war is used in description of Thumos numerous times. Why is courage used for war, both a war of cities and an internal battle between the parts of the soul? Courage no longer needs to coerce our souls into acting justly, when desire and reason are in unison. On the contrary, we need a push that drives us to do what is right, when our desires go against what reason commands. Courage is the force we use to go against the part that “loves, hungers, thirsts…the irrational.” Achieving a soul ruled by reason requires either for desire to be submissive to reason or for reason to have an ally.
