I wish to apply for the position of History Teacher at QEH. I am currently an NQT in my second year of the Teach First programme, having obtained QTS last summer. I started my training at Merrill Academy, a mixed comprehensive school, which serves one of the poorest communities in the UK. My more recent post, at Orchard School Bristol, has required me to adapt quickly and learn new approaches in a different context. Teaching such a diverse cohort, at both schools, affirmed my belief that education knows no boundaries and is the key to unlocking potential in all students, from all backgrounds. I have experience teaching both mixed ability and top set groups. This has required me to differentiate effectively, by embedding challenge and support into all my lessons, in order to meet the needs of all my students. I am committed to ensuring that all students within my classroom have the opportunity to achieve. This is evidenced through the progress my students have made in their end of term assessments; I have used both formative and summative assessment to inform my planning, and used data to make accurate predictions. For example, at Merrill Academy I led 100% of Set 1, Year 10 History, and 100% of those students are on track to meet their predicted levels. To address gaps in student knowledge and progress, identified through assessment and data, I set up focussed and diagnostic lunchtime revision clubs and regularly taught a voluntary period for KS4 students after school. This has had an 80% attendance rate and has enabled me to tackle the challenges of a content heavy GCSE curriculum, by providing students with more time to assimilate the vast quantities of knowledge
