Courage From an Average Person In the book Cowboy Ethics written by James P. Owens, he describes the “Ten Principles to Live By.” As I have been reflecting on my life so far, one of the ten cowboy ethics that has been a driving force in my life is the first one, live each day with courage. The original definition of courage comes for the latin word cor, meaning heart. The original definition was to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart. To live each day with courage I think you must be honorable, be unselfish, and be kind to yourselves and than to others. Living each day with honor in order to be courageous involves being your very best self in every aspect of your life. Whenever I leave my house whether to go to school, activities, or chill with friends, my parents always say ‘Return with Honor.’ I think that it has kept me out of a lot of trouble that I could have gotten into, and that alone takes courage to not fall into the peer pressure of my peers. Returning with Honor means a lot more than just saying, “I returned with honor” it meant that I lived up to my parents standards for me. In order to be an example and show people who you truly are, and your pure intentions you must be unselfish and help others. It is very hard to be courageous while only thinking about yourself. It is easy to think of courage as saving someone else like a superhero. Although, we cannot always swoop in like spiderman to save someone, but we might be able to save their day by sharing the last cooking with them. Being unselfish in a way makes me like a superhero that has a lot of courage to save someone else's day. To live with courage I must show other people what true courage looks like, being
