Becoming a CPA would provide me with so many opportunities for growth in the accounting profession. There are so many industries, specializations, and positions that an accountant could pursue when they get their CPA designation, and I would love to be able to experience some, if not most of them. While the designation does create many opportunities, it is also a requirement is you want to advance within public accounting. During my internship at Ernst & Young last summer, I was told that to get promoted and receive more responsibilities in assurance I would need to get my CPA designation within two years of starting full time. Therefore, I am extremely interested in, and am currently studying for, the CPA in order to start my journey in getting certified and experiencing all of the amazing opportunities that the designation can provide. …show more content…

Because of the large amount of transfer credits I was able to bring in from honors and advanced placement courses in high school, I was able to meet the 120 credit requirement to sit for the CPA after two and a half years of university. I therefore plan on starting to study for my first CPA part this summer, then studying for the rest while I complete my graduate degree. I was also fortunate enough to be enrolled into Hofstra’s Dual Degree program, where I can take fifteen credits of graduate courses to substitute some undergraduate accounting courses, starting my graduate degree in accounting early. This allows me to be able to graduate in May 2019 at my university, with both an undergraduate and graduate degree in accounting, while also meeting the one hundred and fifty credit
