Creating manga is a world trend. Everyone knows “Naruto”, “Sailor Moon”, and “ONE PIECE”. Not only professional artists create manga, but many amateur do too. Are they having fun with it, or are they having a hard time coming up with new ideas? Considering the three types of people that create manga, it would be a leisure activity, rather than work.

Manga are “Japanese comic books and graphic novels considered collectively as a genre” (Manga, n.d.). It comes from the Japanese word 漫画(/ˈmæŋɡə/ or /ˈmɑːŋɡə/), which is said to come from a Chinese word. The word was exported to other countries with the Japanese comics. Creating manga, which is a rather new hobby compared to the former two, is also one of the favorite hobbies today. Some people do not agree with creating manga being a popular activity, and claim that only a certain part of the society like it. However, it could be clearly said that this argument is not true. There are many social networking websites that it is often used to post drawings and illustrations: Pixiv, Tumblr, GALLERIA, TINAMI, Niconico Seiga, imagis, and many more. People even post their pictures to popular social networking services, such as Twitter. The number of the websites are not the only reason why creating manga could be called a popular hobby. There are numerous users of these services. According to Pixiv’s official website, the users of Pixiv reached 20 million in September 2nd, 2016 (Pixiv, 2016). Statista proves Tumblr users now count to over 21 million (Number of Tumblr users in the United States from 2014 to 2020 (in millions), n.d.).
