Homo Sapiens have walked on this Earth for over 200,000 years and from the beginning of time to present day we have lived by the idea that we are the single most important thing in this Universe. As we travel further down our evolutionary path and we become more advanced this ideal plants itself firmly within the human population. From the perspective of the entire Universe, the earth is not the most important aspect and resumes to be a speck in our own galactic neighborhood. On Earth, we only carry intrinsic value yet we believe that everything else on the planet was placed here for our well-being. The point is that if any of these were human’s we would see this as ethically wrong, disturbing, and illegal. Many of the decisions we make every day are because we believe that everything on Earth is naturally of value to us. The creation of a religion has contributed largely to cultivating this idea that the world and even the Universe itself was put here specifically for man. The creation myth being propaganda itself, it states only of what God created for man and no other organism. As Daniel Quinn states in “The Adventure of Mind and Spirit” “If the world was made for us, then it belongs to us and we can do what we damn well please with it.”(Quinn). This is exactly how many normal human beings feel as this idea has long been engrained in us for thousands of years. In this way, anthropocentrism majorly influences our ethical decisions as they affect man and not anything else. Just as one of the ten commandments states you should not kill, in reality, we kill organisms nearly every day without a second thought. We feel this world belongs to us and give no regard for other life forms unless they prove useful and then we use them as if they are our own personal resource. In addition, not only does this worldview influence our ethical decisions but those ethical decisions lead to degradation of the planet
