Goodbye, Goldilocks
The screams of my mother’s name filled my ears. My dad bolted through us looking for his phone. She sprints after him, the words that came out his mouth shocked us all.
It was 8 am. My mother, sisters and I ate breakfast, about to head to school, while my father went outside to turn on his car.
Come to find out, his car wasn’t there.
“Have I ever told you how hard I worked to get that car?” I shake my head. “I worked five severe years for Goldilocks.”
I came up with, Goldilocks when we first got it.
She was red with beige interior. Her rims were silver and spark like the stars at night. The smell of the beach hits you when you enter the car. But my favorite part was the screens that allowed me to watch TV while being

The car ride home to forever. Question after question kept popping up in my head. I wanted to cry. I wanted to yell. I wanted to punch something. As a 7-year-old kid, I felt overwhelmed with emotions that all I could do was throw a temper tantrum.
“Shut up, you’re being a baby,” Yeilyn teased.
All I was capable of doing was sticking my tongue out at her and keep on crying. Before I knew it, I fell asleep crying.
“Despertarse. Estamos a la casa.” my grandmother said.
I trudged into her house, taking off my shoes with heavy arms. My eyes are still puffy and drowsy from crying. While making my way to sleep, I bumped into the wall until I can see her guest bedroom with my squinted eyes. Once I felt the warmth of the bed, I fell fast asleep.
“I can’t believe that someone close to us, would do that. We welcomed everyone that came to our home with open arms and this is how they repay us?”
“I know, Yaneris, I feel so disrespected, but we still don’t know who took it.”
“Yeah, you’re right but who could have known our pin code.”
I look around and noticed that I was in my mother’s minivan. We were by the REC which means we were close to home.
“Mami,” I

The vacation had to be postponed because we needed the money to buy a new car. Mother had to wake up extra early to take my father to work and Mama had to come and get us ready for school.
“What car are you’re going to get next, Papi?” Yeilyn asked.
“Something that is in our budget and cheap.”
Once we got to the car dealership, we were welcome by this man. He showed us the kid-friendly cars that are affordable for us. We ended up with a 2011 Toyota Corolla, A.K.A, Night because it was a black car.
“We have to appreciate the things we have in life. The only reason I need this car is to go to work every day. But I hope you girls remember that material doesn’t matter. If we have our family together, we are good for life.”
Once I heard those words come out of my mother’s mouth, it made me think. Hey, she’s right! That car was just an item. Even though it was expensive, it was an item and we aren’t going to die if we don’t have it. Family is more important. If I didn’t have my parents, sisters or grandmother with me every day of my life, I don’t know what I’ll do. “Seeking happiness in material things is a sure way of being
