King Arthur’s servants and kitchen staff had transformed the normally cold and sterile space into a warm and inviting banquet hall, and it was stunning. Thick cream- and scarlet-colored tablecloths adorned each table. Hundreds of candles situated in bowls filled with harvest grain cast a romantic glow about the chamber. Dozens of garlands of ivy, holly, and red roses adorned the walls, and twenty or thirty huge and lavish baskets, brimming with colorful flowers, hung down from the rafters. Ulrich, sans shirt – trailed by Merlin, Gawain, and Perceval – walked in. Merlin appeared more fidgety and tense than Carina. “Merlin, can you do me a favor and tend to the guests remaining in the Council Chamber? I’d appreciate it,” said Carina’s tunic-less husband. “Of course.” He tore from the room as if his trousers were ablaze. Carina was grateful, because she didn’t need anyone or anything making her more nervous. Gawain slapped Ulrich on his bare back. “I present to you your groom,” said Gawain with a wry smile. “We’ve given the man all the advice we can, and the rest is up to him.” “Much unsolicited advice,” muttered Ulrich. “I’ll bless the bed,” announced Gawain, marching over to the bedside. “Oh, no, you don’t have to…” said Ulrich with a wince, but Gawain already stood over the mattress. Gawain cleared his throat. “May your marriage bed bring you comfort and delight.
