As I run on to the stage, the spotlight blinds me. I open my eyes to see the auditorium completely packed; I continue to walk as I start my scene. "Benevolent merfolk. Welcome!" The scene continues for a short amount of time until it is my time to exit. Now, I sit backstage and wait for my next entrance… It was a wonderful school day where my friends and I got to go down and skip class to do the one thing we love most: singing. On certain days we go down to the music room to be in chorus class, and since we were just in eighth grade, chorus wasn’t an actual class where we can go down automatically during a period. I wandered around the room, trying to eavesdrop on the conversation my friends and that lady were having, and all I could do was think, “What am I missing out on?” It was until Amber, my friend, randomly called out my name. She said, “Juno can do the play. Right, Juno?” I was confused until I realized the lady was the middle school theater director. Mrs. Durgin had recently retired from her teaching job at the middle school recently, but still came back to direct theater productions. Because of theater, I now have something to keep me busy, something to keep me motivated to keep my grades up. Not only have I found a hobby and motivation, I have also found great friends I can call a family. Choosing this path when my road diverged, during eighth grade, has definitely boosted my personality and my courage. After everything I've experienced, I finally understand what Shakespeare meant by “All the world’s a stage.” I didn’t need to be on stage to understand the meaning of that Shakespeare quote. All it took was for me to realize that I have my own spotlight. A spotlight that will always be on me, regardless of what I choose to do in life.
