Homewood-Flossmoor varsity baseball team won Friday's home non-conference game against Marian Catholic High School by a close score of 7-6.

Varsity Head Coach Todd Sippel felt the team didn’t play to their full potential and not being able to work on the field during practices due to rain really impacted the game, but a win is always the best payback.

“It wasn’t perfect, but we got a victory. I’m very happy with the victory. We played good enough to win,” Varsity Head Coach Todd Sippel said. “It’s been really tough because the field has been wet, so we haven’t got a lot of time on the field. It’s been really rough this year. We’ve been getting a lot of swings in and it showed today. We hit the ball really well.”

We were so into the game. You could see all of us standing up and cheering each player on as they made a hit or even if they made a stellar play, but overall I feel like they really had an amazing game. From watching the team at the end of the game and seeing how they reacted to the win, they were proud of their hard work and dedication they put into the game and practices which led them to play the game how they were supposed to and win the game,” Sophomore Laurel White said.

Freshman Carlton (Tre) Hondras was very grateful about him being able to move up onto the Varsity baseball team with upperclassmen and is glad to be able to call the team family.

“It feels good. I’m real humble because I have the opportunity to play up and play with the older team with seniors and juniors. It’s just a blessing and I’ve worked hard for it,” Freshman Carlton (Tre) Hondras said. “ When I first got on the team they treated me like family and that’s all I wanted.”

According to maxpreps.com the star players of the game were Freshmen Carlton (Tre) Hondras, Juniors Brendan Hurley, Tyler Ross and Kyle Salley.
