Teaching students and helping them become educated members of society is one major priority I have as a teacher, but I too understand that there is more to teaching than that. Throughout my semesters in the credential program I learned that is important to have an understanding of the district, state and federal policies in order to protect the students I teach. They will not learn if they are not safe. This semester has prepared me well with plenty of information on important topics. In my portfolio it can be seen that I gathered important material on child abuse and mandated reporting, on how to respond to inappropriate or violent, along with information on how to teach gifted students, English learners and those with disability. Here I gathered information and learned more about how to respond to different situations that might put students at risk and also information on how to respond to inappropriate or violent behavior. These are not too extreme, however it is best that I know how to detect keep all others students safe. Then, we also got information as it can be seen in the portfolio as to how to deal with student’s illness privately, but know what to do. We got taught how to use an EpiPen or adrenaline shot to students with allergies. Then we learned how to help students monitor when thy have diabetes, how to respond to a seizure, how to help a student with an asthma attack and son. I think me being informed about all of this is quite helpful because I will be able to keep the health of my ill students abut also protect the others and no one else has to know what is going on. I will not tell other students what is going on with a classmate, that is private information that does not need to be shared with any one and will not be shared unless it is absolutely necessary for the child’s
