I adapted attending court as a member of public as a hobby. Legal courtroom dramas gave me my biggest misconception on law, thinking that justice is served only in highest courts, on the biggest cases. Through those mornings sitting at the back of the courtroom, I realized most of the time, justice happens in magistrate courts and session courts. From protecting ordinary people from the arbitrary abuse of power of the more powerful ones, to as small as driving on the highway, the law, is the pillar of a civilization, with its diversity in our daily life. Sitting in interviews with clients, recording and handling files as a personal assistant, I have acquired organizing and coordinating skills. Access to agreements and profiles of the cases undertaken by the firm, granted me much insight on the different legal procedures. Reading up in the firm library, with collections of law journals provoked my thoughts to ask questions and initiatively seek answers. I followed my mentor to courts sessions, witnessing mentions and trials, in which I assisted in preparing the necessary documents and files. Though it was hard without prior legal knowledge, the efforts helped to shape my ability to pay attention to details, construct arguments based on evidence, and to think critically. My working experience as both a private tutor and a teaching assistant in a learning center, trained me to process information and present opinions precisely. My committee position in college’s Law Society has enhanced my coordinating, written and oral communication skills, having planned through Legal Week, mooting competition, high court visit and legal talks. Besides continuously serving as a coordinator for church service, leading groups and directing events as a youth leader, refined my leadership and delegating skill. I am a confident public speaker having being invited to HELP, a local university as a guest speaker for three lectures, to share my thoughts and life experience. I regularly visit local orphanages offering on-site help, besides initiating volunteering programs and community service outside of school.
