That is one of the reasons he doesn’t like change, because the biggest change he can remember is living without his father. Another example is Jeremy’s food choice.
The support of friends and family can help contribute to a character's ability to overcome difficulties. In The One Safe Place by Tania Unsworth, Devin was able to overcome his problems with the help of his friends and family. Devin's grandfather helps Devin overcome his difficulties throughout the story. At the beginning of the book, Devin was struggling to take care of the farm on his own when his grandfather died and remembered his grandfather once said: "' You'll go there someday too, Dev.' His grandfather had told him 'When you're ready to leave.'"
Listening and caring skills according to John Savage offers specific and teachable listening skills for improving relationships among those who do ministry. The skills are taught through oral exercises and unfailingly helpful examples from actual congregational situations. Some of the skills include expression of feelings and emotions which includes the skill of direct expression of feeling, indirect expression of emotions and direct expression of feelings. Our feelings and emotions can be induced by many things from the external world. In the foreword of the novel, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, there is a quote that reads: “But it’s so much more than a book about depression. The play, Antigone written by Sophocles, presents a tragedy that fits the classical definition, but it is the story of Creon, the king of the main character. Creon starts out as the king of Thebes , Creon’s tragic flaw is his pride and his arrogance which caused him reflecting upon his mistakes making him a broken man, recognizing what he did to his niece, he is a character within Antigone, even though he was portrayed as an antagonist he was the main character since he was. Creon’s tragic flaw, hubris, causes his downfall. Creon will not listen to anyone.

This caused him to treat this lifestyle as a full time job. He was committed to making a name for himself and maintaining ‘street cred’, which meant that he had to get rid of anyone or anything that stood in his and his pack’s way. His mind was under so much manipulation that he felt that his participation in the gang was his only way survival.

(Hawkins, 1994, P. 206) My personal understanding of the parable ‘The Prodigal Son” is that it portrays the importance of reasoning and forgiveness. The main characters in the parable are two sons and a betrayed father. The father remains constant throughout the parable, although he has being betrayed by his younger son.
