The aim of this review is to explore issues of gender, class and cultural experiences of black African women. It will give a critical analysis of She No Longer Weeps (1987) from a feminist point of view of women’s subordination. The main argument of this review is based on notion that even though gender oppression against women is highly discouraged worldwide and being in the process of being eradicated, unequal power relations between women and men continues. Women continue to suffer daily infringement of their rights such as violence against women which is a human rights abuse according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The main argument of this exploration is an analysis of the role of women play in the novel and expound on how patriarchal oppression fosters discrimination against women. The norms that culture sets, regulate women as being subordinate are to be investigated.
