Critical Evaluation Essay Mankind has achieved many remarkable life enhancing things throughout its history. His continual evolution helped him develop vaccines to combat viruses and deadly diseases like polio, Tuberculosis among many other things. Mankind had even managed to send man to another planet “the moon” which is one of his greatest scientific feat, but according to Mark Twain, the author of “The Damned Human Race” essay, “Man is the Cruel Animal. He is alone in that distinction” (Twain, M.). He based his ideas of mankind’s cruelty on his experimental research study. He effectively uses pathos and logos appeals in order to persuade his readers of mankind’s cruelty, tap into their emotions and hook their interests in his argument that mankind’s moral sense is valueless to him (Twain, M.). Mr. Twain effective use of the pathos and logos appeals in order to persuade his readers of mankind’s cruelty was successful because his ideas were based on experimental study which he conducted himself. This gives credibility to his argument. He explains mankind’s cruelty to his readers using the satirical writing style. One of his supported examples of this style was when he gives an account of “an article about three monks who were burnt to death and another monk prior had dealt with the same horrifying cruelty and he said we did not even inquire about the details because if we did, we would have realized that the monk prior was force to unbelievable mutilations” (Twain, M.)
