The Internet has undoubtedly caused a massive surge in research on human behaviour. As a growing number of people starts interacting on a regular basis on the internet such as in email, instant messaging, chat rooms, Web forums, social apps environment (Whatsapp, Wechat, etc.) and the like, researchers has since try to understand their behaviour in an attempt to uncover the nature of computer-mediated communication and how it can function and be optimized in specific contexts of use. This attempt is facilitated by the fact that people engage in socially meaningful activities online. Two participants are involved in a conversation where a participant named Bryan Bishop acts as an interviewee and another named James Wan acts as the interviewee. The study will be divided into four sections for in-depth analysis and interpretation. The first two sections concern with the language aspect and the conversation etiquette of the study and the final two will be regarding about the critical discourse analysis and conversation analysis. In this section, the interview’s language aspect will be examined. The language aspect plays a vital role in today’s discourse and the users of CMD has bring astounding effect to the language itself. Since the product of the interview is language text, the interview addresses the characteristic uses of language, the ambiguity use and how pragmatic comes into play. It was essential to the study of discourse as one of the many indications of the contrasting social acceptance. In this online communication, it is pragmatically synchronous where the features of the interview conducted enables the participants to have turn-taking, with a question followed by an answer per interaction. The turn-taking rules has been adapted in this form of communication context. Grounding in pragmatic analysis has also been established between the two participants who both are able to set the same context which its utterances and meaning can be inferred to. Grounding can be found in Interaction 1 where the interviewee manages to infer the extra meaning conveyed by the interviewer. In this section, the degree of formality and conversational politeness shall be discussed in this interview.
