Abstract
Information Technology Sector
Critical Functions and Vulnerabilities
United States has 16 sectors of critical infrastructure, all of which in some way use different forms of technology in either a small-scale variance and large- scale variance. One sector has a dramatic influence on all the others, that sector is the Information Technology Sector. This sector ensures the use of technology infrastructures, the ensuring of and safety of vulnerabilities’ of software, various databases, computer systems and various information assets. This document gives different variables to how IT functions could be affected. The Information Technology Sector is different from other sectors because there are not only physical assets but also critical functions this sector encompasses. The functions are critical to ensuring the different aspects of the IT sector such as: processes that produce, provide, and maintain products and services (ITSSP, 2010). These functions rely on the networks and virtual systems that give support to providing such functions to public and private sectors. The IT Sector Critical Functions are as followed: provide IT products and services, provide incident management capabilities, provide domain name resolution services, provide identity management and associated trust support services, provide internet-based content information and communication services, and provide internet routing, access and connections services. These critical functions are identified and defined by the Information Technology Sector-Specific Plan . The functions are demonstrated by a range of entities that provide systems, software, IT hardware and services such as operation, communications, integration and security. Through these functions alone the IT sector exhibits and
