Critical Race Theory (CRT) is a structure which critiques racism and power dynamics, and therefore views race, class, and gender as essential influences on one’s existence (Jeffries 5). For example, if someone moves to a town that is predominantly one race the focus would be about how this new person is perceived by the other people and how the other people would treat them due to their differences. Critical Race theory mainly is centered around the ideology of the majority race and they way the behave, treat and acknowledge minority races. Critical Race Theory can also question the thought of society and the way they could perceive the differences in cultures due to the multiple amounts of differences.

The main issue in the play is the oppression that the characters are finding ways to move around. Nothing comes easy to the family especially when their soon to be neighbors do not accept them. There is a divide in this time era due to one race trying to overpower another race. Critical Race Theory in “A Raisin in the Sun” can also be seen as and internal personal issue. We see this is both Beneatha and Walter. Beneatha struggles with figuring out how she really should represent her african american culture. She struggles with this until she meets her african boyfriend who leads her to become closer with her culture. Walter struggles with knowing how to be a the strong black man that his family needs for him to be. He does not truly understand what a black man's place should be or how he is supposed to protect his family. However, the main issue in this play is still the issue of race.
