NIL is one of if not the most highly debated topics in the college sports world. While its incorporation in the college world initially came with much applause the applause has quickly faded as flaws and problems pop up. Despite its flaws, incorporating NIL into the college world presents an opportunity to achieve meaningful reform that could help revolutionize college sports and benefit student-athletes across America. With the NIL’s lack of rules and regulations, the boosters and collectives are allowed to practically bid on players like they are storage units not knowing what they might get out of the player they got from outbidding the other boosters and collectives of the other powerhouse programs. Sadly “Everything now comes down to how willing are your boosters and how rich are your boosters. You’re pretty much f----- if you don’t have the booster bank. It is simply the world of college sports that we now live in” (Ross Dellenger). Tho through my research, I have seen that there are many possible solutions for NIL, but the most beneficial for both parties pro and against NIL would be to establish a trust fund for college athletes, funded by a small percentage of the revenues generated by college sports. This fund could be used to provide financial support to athletes who come from low-income backgrounds or who face financial hardships. Also, the trust fund could be used to compensate athletes for the use of their NIL, with the funds distributed equally among all athletes. It would help athletes transition to the next part of their lives while eliminating the booster and collectives that plague college sports to this day. While some may have concerns about the implementation of NIL, it is important to remember that this reform is long overdue. The current system has prominent issues, and NIL can be a vital step in addressing these issues. By working collaboratively, we can find solutions that benefit student-athletes, colleges, and the industry as a whole.
