Gallico, writing this article, shows that he cannot fathom losing to a woman, and just because a woman beat him, that means that women should not play some sports, like golf, because it is “unlady like” (Cayleff 86). This position was one that many men did share, but because Didrikson did show to a man that a woman could play a man’s sport like golf well, it opens up the conversation and the realization that a women could be as good, if not better, than a man at

In history, and present time, many events foreshadow women obtaining more rights and becoming equal with men. Many people think that women have not gained much power, or are losing it. I on the other hand, believe that women’s rights have not died down but progressed over time. In many circumstances, women have proved themselves, and have gained power over time. Sometimes this power was even seen as a problem.
In Ancient Greek Civilization, women were viewed as submissive. A man always controlled the women; that either being the Father or Husband. Women were forced to stay in the house and complete all household duties. Women were not even granted the right to attend assemblies, participate in politics, or even represent themselves in court. Having little to no overall power in your society can have a huge burden on Women but this can also fuel certain Women to strive to change the society they live in.
It is not a new idea that women can function well in positions of authority? There have been many women who played crucial roles in leadership positions throughout history. The history of the Cherokee Indians contains several examples of women who have risen to positions of influence in their society! Such women were named “Beloved Women” by the tribe. A Cherokee woman could, “take her husband’s place in war.” and be given the name “War Woman” as a result.
Men have given the media this unrealistic image that women cannot fend for themselves, cannot do hard jobs, or cannot get as far in life as a man. Even in jobs, though a woman and a man may be in the same position, women “earn just 74 cents for every $1 a man earns” (CNNMoney). This is truly unfair, yet men today still say that women are “equal,” though it is obviously false. Women today, though they have more rights than in the 1800’s, are still not in the place we need to be in ranking with men. Women are still abused, sexually harassed and mistreated more than men because of their sex.
The media giving this specific gender all this power makes it so women are considered less, instead of each gender being equal. You could compare the media to drugs, it’s fun at first, but then you get addicted and then it becomes harmful. The only difference is the media isn’t a substance, instead it makes men be perceived as judgemental, and demeaning, and women as weak and insecure. We as a whole need to understanding what is happening and end

Women should not be belittled or objectified just because they are females. In fact women are strong, brilliant, and accomplished individuals who deserve to be in positions of power. Our appearance should not dictate our capabilities. Therefore, if we are able to create more awareness through campaigns and education we will be able to reduce the sexism and discrimination toward women and create an actual democratic society not where the majority is men. If we are able to frame this issue in a way that resonates with others then we will be able to recruit more individuals and create a social movement powerful enough to stop or at least minimize the dehumanization of women.

Patriarchal can be defined as the aspect in society that looks into male dominance and power over all matters of society and how these privileges are simply handed down to men.
