The Kansas City Patrol Experiment was an evaluation using the community as a test subjects to determine how citizens would react to an increase in police presence. The goal of the experiment was to determine if the strategic planning of the police department to increase officers in areas would deter crime, foster safety in the community, and minimize fear all without jeopardizing public safety (Police Foundation, 2016). The experiment which took place in late 1972 and ended in 1973 would follow several Kansas City law enforcement officers as they set up police beats.
