Whether we understand it or not, the music that surrounds us everyday has a deeper significance than what can be heard, or seen. Using his own imperfect set of teeth, J cole reaffirms his opinion that nobody’s perfect, as in everyone has their own “crooked smile”. This song is about embracing who you really are and embracing your imperfections because in reality nobody is perfect, everyone has their own flaws. The first two verses are directed to women who are unhappy with their appearance, while the third verse is more so about society. For example in verse 1, line 15, Jcole says “no need to fix what god already put his paintbrush on”. Women always cover up the features they feel are wrong but Cole is trying to tell women that no matter how much makeup you put on, you cant change the way god made you. Women shouldn’t feel the need to put on makeup just because of imperfections, they are born that way and shouldn’t be hiding it but many women love it and want a makeup career and Cole also says paintbrush since many women consider makeup art and see a profession out of it. Another essential part is in verse 3, line 10 when Cole says “and fuck all that beef shit, n**** lets make a mil”. Jcole wants peace with everyone because having an issue with somebody is pointless. “Beef” is referring to to the tension between everyone and how it is what revolves around society.
