The book Crow country was published on 24th august 2011 by Kate constable. The book is a fantasy and a time travel fiction. In the novel it’s about a 13 year old girl named Sadie, who moved from Melbourne to a small town called Boort by her mother ‘Ellie’ decision. Saide started connecting with land and heritage from interacting with a crow, she made friends with 2 characters in the book named Lachine and walter. Saide went back in time to witness conflict, later discovers the mystery of the town. Throughout the book the author analyses Sadie's transformation of interrelating her land and her heritage allowing her to change herself and finding her limits. Saide wasn’t delighted there, however she soon eased herself to the town and their friendly citizens. She learned that she had the ability to communicate with the town crows in an area which she calls her ‘secret place’, the crows had given Saide a mission to bring justice to a lost soul, the ‘clever man’ who was unable to ‘rest’. She soon discovered the event of the Boorts past, that a mystery murder occurred in 1930’s but before justice could have been served the valley was flooded and the evidence was washed away. Saide went back in time 1930 to witness the horrific crime, she met her great-grandfather's job as part of a business development plan and they needed Mortlock , a rich landowner to sell his land but refused. The author writes in the novel” the game, the story, the riddle, hiding and seeking , beginning and engine always”, this is spoken by a crow, which is a representation of a spirit. “The game, the story, the riddle” the word ‘the’ has been repeatedly used to attract the audience through the technique anaphora to convey a warning to Saide. This statement is supported by the half of the quote, "the story beginning and ending always”, it demonstrates a story/event that has happened previously and is going to reoccur once again. It also conveys the wisdom of an elderly, the crow comes as a messenger of the aboriginal ancestors, bringing a mission and the mystery for Sadie to solve which is suggested in “hiding and seeking”. The quote displayed in a riddle format indicating the crow is a spirit warning about an recurring event.
