The Crucible, a play by Arthur Miller, focuses on the town of Salem, Massachusetts, during the deplorable witch trials revolving around the 1600's. Within these trials, there were multiple accusations that were made about who was really involved in the witch trials, many of the characters who were falsely and baselessly accused were innocent. The falsification that were created by the main character of The Crucible, Abigail Williams were only for her own benefit to protect herself from being accused as one of the “witches” or had she had been there in the forest the night there was witchcraft . For example, in (Act 1.Scene 3)ABIGAIL: She sends her spirit on me in church; she makes me laugh at prayer! ABIGAIL:
"You must understand, sir, that a person is either with this court or he must be counted against it, there be no road between. This is a sharp time, now, a precise time-we live no longer in the dusky afternoon when evil mixed itself with good and befuddled the world. Now, by God's grace, the shining sun is up, and them that fear not light will surely praise it." First we must look into how the Salem Village lived at that point in time. Lies Cost Lives Over 150 young women involved with USA Gymnastics (USAG) and Michigan State (MSU) recently came out as victims of sexual abuse. The culprit: their well-respected physician, Larry Nassar. The young gymnasts were required to see this physician, and, when a few brave girls tried to report him, they were shut down for being “disrespectful” or “insubordinate.” The organizations who supported Nassar, specifically USAG, MSU, and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), did nothing for these young women because they felt they needed to protect their and Nassar’s reputations as the best of the best.
The Salem Witch Trials began in Salem Massachusetts in 1629. Many people were accused of being a witch and many lives were lost. In Author Miller’s The Crucible, Abigail Williams is the most to blame for the events of the Salem Witch Trials.
The Crucible “Integrity is choosing your thoughts and actions based on values rather than personal gain” (Integrity). This quote describes that people who have integrity are honest and not selfish. They know what the consequences are but still commit to their values. Those who choose to have integrity make them inherently good people, in The Crucible, because their actions reveal their true character. In The Crucible, integrity circulates throughout the book, whereas some submit to and others who do not.

During this time people of the town were easily persuaded to persecute their fellow neighbors, due to their religion and it’s principles. Thirty years before the infamous Salem Witch Trials there was a witch scare in Hartford,Connecticut, resulting in raised tensions about witches, making the hangings of 20 people more of a safety precaution rather than a righteous and fair trial.
Since the beginning of time people have gone through trials in court to either be proven innocent or guilty. In the Crucible by Arthur Miller a massive number of people were being convicted in Salem, Massachusetts because of the witch trials. The law of the land states that everyone is above suspicion until they are demonstrated to be guilty by legitimate evidence; in the play the Crucible if a person was accused of an unlawful act they were summons for being a witch and working for the devil without proper confirmation. Citizens in Salem were imposed to establish their innocent or be put to death, which caused conflicting issues in the village.
Accusation (noun): a charge or claim that someone has done something illegal or wrong. In today’s time accusations are made all the time. It is very certain that something similar to what happened in The Crucible happens still today. Just look at today’s political election, accusations and allegations are thrown everywhere and at everyone. On both sides, one person is accusing another of some act that is usually never proven to be true or false.

They claim the witches were making them do these bad things. The girls accused a lot of people and got a lot of people of hang for being witches.

Abigail is being accused of witchcraft and she is a manipulative girl. Abigail has been accused of committing witchcraft in the woods and she plans to bring other people down with her.
This quote supports my claim because it interprets the fear that would be stricken into citizens knowing that they could be accused of witchcraft for doing anything that was considered untoward in their views. Another quote that supports my claim is “One hundred years after the Salem trials, courts in France launched mass executions of suspected enemies of the revolution that deposed10 the monarchy. The “Reign of Terror,” conducted without trials and made more efficient by the use of a new labor-saving machine — the guillotine11 — lasted from 6 September 1793 until 28 July 1794. It beheaded a total of 42,000 individuals.” (2).
A Time in “The Crucible” Everyone is being accused. The Salem Witch Trials took place in 1692, in Salem Massachusetts. A frightening time for most, who will be accused of witchcraft. I feared for my life, having trepidation, hoping not to be accused. I must debate why the trials started, why I am being accused and what choice I will make.
The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts. The trials resulted in the executions of twenty people, fourteen of them women, and all but one by hanging. The play was written in 1952 after the Red Scare in America that caused much hysteria, like the Salem witch trials. In the play, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Each of the characters of Proctor, Hale, and Elizabeth changed from the beginning of the play to the end of the story. Proctor becomes more honest; Hale becomes more skeptical, and Elizabeth becomes more forgiving.
