During World War II, Nazi Germany performed various cruel and inhumane experiments on the Jewish and gypsy prisoners held in concentration camps. These experiments were categorized into three groups, military, pharmaceuticals, and racial advancement based experiments. There are many who say the data that was gathered during these experiments should not be used, but because the lives of the innocent were used to conduct these experiments, the data collected from some of them should be used because it could benefit the lives of many soldiers in war, assist in advancement for pharmaceuticals, and so the lives of the victims who endured these experiments wouldn’t be wasted. The prisoners at Dachau were placed in low-pressure chambers to stimulate the conditions pilots faced at altitudes up to 66,000 feet. Out of the 200 subjects used in these experiments, 80 died during the test and the rest were executed (Reduce the Burden 2009). It is rumored that those who survived this experiment had their brains analyzed to gather information based on the air bubbles formed in the brains of the victims after being exposed to the altitudes. From this experiment, the military could create new technology to assist the air force so fewer soldiers die when they must eject themselves from their planes. The Hypothermia experiments were a series of freezing studies conducted on the Dachau prisoners. The doctors would first record how long it took to freeze the body, and then they would try to determine the best way to resuscitate the frozen victim (Reduce the Burden 2009).
