There are many themes is the play “a streetcar named desire”. One of the most important themes expressed in the play is the theme of cruelty and how the characters who treat others badly and with cruelty. There were 3 main characters who showed acts of cruelty and they are Blanche, Mitch, and Stanley. Whether they deliberately or unintentionally treated others with cruelty they caused the people immense amount of pain both physically and mentally. During her young days Blanche Dubois dealt out a lot of cruel acts. When Blanche was 16 years old she was in love with a man called Allan Gray. She was insane about him and wanted to marry him. But sadly one night Blanche found Allan cheating on her with another man. She tried to pretend that she did not see anything but finally she burst out and tol allen that he disgusts her. What Blanche told him completely devastated Allen and caused him to commit suicide. Although Blanche did not want to hurt him what she said was enough to make Allen shoot himself. …show more content…

At first it was all going very well as they both thought of getting married to each other but things got worse after Stan interfered. Stan kept telling Mitch bad stories about Blanche. At first he did not believe him but when Blanche confirmed everything he became heartbroken and enraged. He then accused Blanche of being a prostitute and lying to him. She accepts the accusations but tells him the she never lied in her heart. In the middle of the fight mitch tells her “You’re not clean enough to bring in the house with my mother.” After he tells her that Blanche kicks him out of the house. After the fight she becomes mentally broken
