The Emperor and the Assassin, while still having fictional drama to entice the audience, has distinct similarities with The Biography of Lu Pu-Wei and The Biography of Ching K’o. These documents and movie outlines key points regarding The Warring States in which Ch’in emerges victorious, uniting all seven states, and the First Emperor takes the throne. In contrast, he was dismissed because of his part in the Lu Pu-wei, Lao Ai, and Queen Dowager love triangle in The Biography of Lu Bu-wei. Ying Zheng is outraged that the Prime Minister, his mother, and this servant were potentially plotting his demise and had an alternative ruler to him. However, Lu Pu-wei was utilizing this scandal as a shield for something much larger. In order to terminate relations with Queen Dowager, the First Emperor’s mother, Lu Pu-wei employed the help of Lao Ai, to be the Queen Dowager’s servant and companion. Lu Pu-wei accomplished this with the purpose to hide his relations with the Queen and carry on the front that the young king was not actually his son. However, Lao Ai, and the Queen Dowager had children that were eventually discovered and killed so no one could threaten the crown. Through this Lu Pu-wei was discovered for his part in the plot, and dismissed from his post. Though it is unclear if Ying Zheng ever realized Lu Pu-wei is actually his father, the movie had a “Luke I am your father” moment and resulted in the suicide of Lu Pu-wei. It is possible that this betrayal by Ying Zheng’s family was another cause for his
