The industry is changing with new software and new techniques to do things faster and more efficient than before. The rapid growth and constant transformation of the market can sprout new companies. These companies can find new untapped markets that other companies have either ignored or were ignorant of. Google was founded in 1998 from a project that originated from Stanford University. Google was incorporated on September 4, 1998. The company original name for Google was BackRub but was later changed before incorporating with a name based on the term googol; Googol means 10 to the power of 100. Google started out on the Stanford servers. Larry Page tried to sell BackRub as Businesses Insider wrote “In January 1997, Page offered to sell BackRub to an Internet portal called Excite for a total of $1.6 million. In a letter to Excite’s primary investor, Vinod Khosla, Page said BackRub would boost Excite’s traffic by 10% and its ad revenue by $47 million over a year.” Business Insider goes on to write that the counter offer was $750,000 but the Excite CEO George Bell told Larry Page that the BackRub service was too effective and would cost the company user time thus decreasing advertising …show more content…

Android enabled hardware competitors to build phones that universally allows users a somewhat stable experience from one device to another. Before Android, the market was bombarded with many different OSs for mobile computing, from Symbian to Samsungs Symbian OS. Google cloud platform is a service that allows people to start a website or host an existing website onto their servers. Youtube was purchased for 1.65 billion dollars in 2006 ( NBC News, 2006 ) and has played a large role in Google’s business strategy with ads appearing in videos with shared revenue to video uploaders. Google Play is a store that sells music, movies, and applications for Android. Google’s service “Books” enables users to search using keywords to find digitized books using full text. Image Search by Google lets users find images by keywords or find similar images to one that is supplied. Video search by Google lets users find videos based on keywords. News by Google is a news aggregator that scans news sites and compiles a site that is based on popularity of the news
