Culinary arts was major between the 1900’s and the 1920’s. Many people wanted to be in the business but only a few could. Pizza was the first item in the menu “it was the first because it was the best.” Gennaro first began selling tomato pies wrapped in paper and tied with a string People say Gennaro was an Italian immigrant who moved to the United States in 1897 known for opening the first pizzeria in the United States. He started putting together his restaurant in 1897. A baker by the name of Gennaro Lombardi rented an apartment above the grocery store in which he worked in. He called his pizza shop “Pizzeria.” His pizza, and his pizza shop was the first in the United States. He started his process in 19o5. …show more content…

Lombardi often stayed late into the night baking pizza’s that the grocer would sell out of his shop the next day. It did not take him long to figure out that the thousands of nearby factory workers represented a growth market for his modest business in the same way. Lombardi said himself that “In 1984, the original Lombardi's closed, but reopened ten years later a block away at 32 Spring Street” Lombardi’s pizza was the first pizza made in Italy.
