Across the world there are many differences in how certain cultures live there everyday lives. There are also different ways cultural dimensions are expressed. India and the United States have many distinct cultural differences that determine how people in that country live. There are many different religions in our world, but some are more popular than others depending on the culture of that country. In the United States the most popular religion practiced is Christianity. This includes Protestant, Catholic, Mormon, Jehovah’s Witness and Orthodox. The other popular religions practiced in America include Judaism, Buddhism, and Islamic. India is the second with around 1,236,344,631 and the United States in third with around 318,892,103(2014). Although India is extremely larger than we are by about 4 times we still remain the third most populated in the world. One of the main differences between Indian and the culture of the United States are its view on gender roles. In the U.S. a woman can do almost anything a man can do without major repercussions. In India most of the men are landowners and posses high leadership positions. Domestic abuse among women is also more common. This is not to say that all women and young girls are treated horribly. India is very family focused and that is why they see things as a collectivist group rather than individually. The authority in India would be of a high power distance. They are very traditional when it comes to power, influence, and wealth, India is a high power with inequality in their country. India is on the low end of uncertainty avoidance scale. They want to minimize situations that would stray them from what they believe to be the truth, or sometimes known as “there can be only be one truth and we have it.” Achievement in India would lean more towards competitive, they are a highly populated country and very driven. They center their focus on the success of their lives, which reflects their achievement. When talking about time in India we can see both sides to their values. When it comes to business and seriousness like a lot of countries, punctuality is very important to them. In everyday lives when its non professional though, they lean more towards event time, which is known as a round about or approximate. With communication in India because they are so traditional they are direct communicators. Not like the United States where we may look for the in between but rather leave communication straight to the point. The lifestyle in India would be considered a doing country.
