For the residents’ of these nursing homes, living in these establishments feels characteristic of an institution, as opposed to a home. Madeline’s unit resembles an average home; it includes a foyer leading into an open living room and dining room furnished with soft couches and chairs. Inside the mutual living space, seasonal decorations are placed on tables, in addition to paintings hung on the walls. Furthermore, decorated bedroom doors line the outside halls, in conjunction with a personally made shadow box of their life. Each certified nursing assistant solely cares for a specific set of residents, therefore allowing for the creation of personal connections.
