Culture is something that affects us in our everyday life whether we like it or not culture affects how we think and act . This can take an effect in multiple different types of ways like how you may respond to a new environment , how we play , how we work , or how we view ourselves and others . It can also affect our values like what we view as right or wrong and it can also influence our decisions . Culture affects our perspective as shown in “ The wife's story” by Ursula Le Guin , “ The Lottery “ by Shirley Jackson , and “ Desiree’s Baby” by Kate Chopin .

The influence in this story is tradition which is a part of culture . Tradition plays a huge role in the actions of the townspeople . Shirley shows us how their tradition affects the townspeople and what the lottery is . “ Lottery in June , corn be heavy soon “ ( Shirley 39 ). This quote tells us that the lottery is a human sacrifice and in return for their sacrifice there will be more corn . In their culture human sacrifice for corn during June is normal but is observed and outdated and foolish to others. Their view on those that don’t take part in the lottery is similar to ours . Which is due to their culture and faith in their tradition. As shown between two pieces of dialogue between two characters . “ Some places have already quit lotteries,” Mrs Adam said . Nothing but trouble in that , “old man warner said stoutly. “ pack of young fools”. ( Shirley 41). As revealed by the conversion between these two characters . Those that quit taking part in the lottery are considered foolish and nothing but trouble . Which is the result of their faith in this tradition which causes their perspective to be what it is due to their cultural
