Whale talk, a book about a teen named tj, who struggled with family values and friends. With a little courage, and an oddball group of kids on a swim team, they learn that if you keep on going, you can and will succeed. Chris crutcher, the author of this book, is a special writer. The reason i say that is due to the fact that, he writes his books using examples of modern day themes and situations. Crutcher wrote whale talk around a few themes/messages that he wanted to pursue, and one of the messages was that if you have perseverance, you will keep on going no matter what situation you are in, and that is exactly what crutcher showed in his book, whale talk.
A nation will only be successful if all members share similar values or similar goals. Any number of people who live under one governing power will only be able to thrive and prosper if they are united by a set of beliefs that will lead each person in the nation to success. For example, the United States has an American National Identity which strives for equality, fairness, justice, and progress. This common identity creates a sense of pride or patriotism within all of the members, making a more feasible path to achieving the goals previously mentioned.
She acknowledges that they may feel it's pointless to survive without carrying any cultural heritage. However, the author argues that questioning, curiosity, and acceptance are also part of the human tradition and are as old as ideas of ethnicity and religion. These qualities are equally important in shaping one's identity and they have allowed for the growth of human knowledge and understanding throughout history. Therefore, it is just as valuable to embrace these traits as it is to embrace one's cultural heritage.

The characters' commitment to Anishinaabe traditions and practices helps them keep a connection to their Indigenous origin and shapes their individual and communal identities in the novel. Cultural traditions are usually practiced within the framework of a community. They draw people together, cultivating a sense of belonging, shared experiences, and mutual support.
Culture affects how humans view themselves, others and the greater world around them. Therefore, having a culture to call one's own allows an individual to form a unique identity which can also grow to be a source of comfort. One can also be prideful of their culture, using it as a motivator for their actions. All these qualities can be exemplified by protagonist Bugz, in the novel, "Walking in Two Worlds" by Wab Kinew.
The movie Blackfish is a documentary about Orca whales and their abhorrent treatment throughout SeaWorld’s history, detailing how the whales should be freed from their enclosures and sent back into the oceans where they belong to protect not only themselves, but to the trainers and visitors of SeaWorld as well. Blackfish revolves around one Orca named Tilikum, at 12,000 pounds he was the dominant one at SeaWorld. However, Tilikum’s public murder of three trainers changed the way people looked at SeaWorld. Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite released a documentary in 2013 titled Blackfish detailing SeaWorld’s horrific treatment of its marine animals, especially the Orcas, in captivity. Spirituality and Traditions in the Empire of Wild and Monkey Beach. The two novels discussed in class rely heavily on the indigenous culture as the setting for each plot. One source of tension in Monkey Beach is Lisa's "gift"—the ability to see prophetic visions and dreams, often seeing the little man, a tree spirit that appears as a warning sign before a tragic event happens. Lisa's "gift" is a burden from which she shies away from due to uncertainty of her powers and no control over the spirit.
Every day we use our culture. Whether it be to argue claims, express opinions, or make decisions, culture plays a part in each area. Culture is who we are, one’s identity, its extent is enormous over our views and actions. A person grows up surrounded with culture at a young age. This can affect how they learn and what they learn.
In today decision I would have to say that Texas will remain a Republican Party. The President of the United States is a Republican. My decision would have to be that the Texas Party will stay the same way since the nineteenth seventies till the remaining of the President Donald Trump term. Texas has a lot of factors that helps makes decisions such as age, income, Education, Ethnicity, Religion, and Gender. The biggest factor would be Ethnicity, and why Is because in the 1950’s between 50% and 60% of black voters identified as Democrats.
“A long time ago, my ancestor Paikea came to this place on the back of a whale. Since then, in every generation of my family, the first born son has carried his name and become the leader of our tribe... until now” (Caro & Sanders, 2003). Whale Rider is the story of a girl, Pai, whose twin brother and mother die in child birth. Koro, Pai’s grandfather and leader of the Maori tribe, is devastated that their future leader has died. Years later Koro is determined to find a leader and begins to teach and train the boys, in which Pai is not allowed to join because she is a girl.
At first I wrestled with where my identity lay. The strong values and traditions of the Indian culture sometimes made it difficult to fit in with the crowd. As I grew older, I began to understand that I was not part of an individual culture, but a fusion of two rich and colorful histories. I recognized that there is remarkably more to an individual than where she comes from, and more to her than where she currently lives. Importantly, being from two cultures allows me to incorporate the best qualities of both.
Without the knowledge of what culture is and does, we as a society would be lost. In the essay, “An Indian Father’s Plea” by Robert Lake, the author takes to explain to his audience that your culture can greatly impact your perspective of others. For example, when the teacher Wind-Wolf a slow learner, the father writes a letter explaining why wind-wolf is not, but in fact the opposite. The author said “If you ask him how many months there are in a year he will probably tell you 13. He will respond this way not because he does not know how to count, but because he was taught by our traditional people.”
Hemingway presents the elements of failure and suffering in The Old Man and the Sea by depicting several instances of suffering and failure which the Old Man, Santiago, has to go through throughout the course of the novel. According to Hemingway, life is just one big struggle. In the beginning of the novel itself, The Old Man, is presented as a somewhat frail old man who is still struggling with his life as well as his past failures. His skiff even had a sail which bore great resemblance to “the flag of permanent defeat”, with its multiple patches all over.
