The Cummins motor is used in heavy machinery or trucks such as Dodge rams and now Nissan. The cummins motor has been used for 98 years and they still are satisfying the people. Through the years, the history of the Cummins motor has out performed most motors, because it is placed third of best pickup engines. The first Cummins motor was introduced to the world in 1919. It was made in Columbus Indiana by Cummins engine company. That lead onto 98 successful years of engine production. In 1929, W.G Irwin rode in the first diesel powered automobile from Cummins. That new engine lead on with having a 13,535- mile run around the Indianapolis motor speedway in 1931. Around the 1950’s, the U.S. embarked on the production of highways. In 1996 it exceeded 200 horsepower. It had started and 160 hp. Next it was 175 hp. It only took eight years to reach that point. The pound- feet torque increased by 40 pounds. ("Cummins RAM History - Cummins Engines," n.d.). Then, in 2001, it surpassed 500-feet torque. After the 5.9 liter engines, in 2007, they made the 6.7 liter engine, which reached 350 horsepower with 650 pound-feet torque. That was already a lot of power for a motor, but now they had to one up that. 2013 was the year that the Cummins engine reached 385 horsepower and had 850 pound -feet torque. There will most likely be an increase in horsepower as well as pound-feet torque. ("Cummins RAM History - Cummins Engines,n.d.) In 2013, the Cummins industry released test results showing that they can save 10 miles per gallon under real world driving conditions.(http://now.cummins.com/InnovationTimeline). This can help with demand on gas. Also, that is decreasing the emissions that the vehicle will put out. They are not using as much gas.
