In 2009, Smilin Dogs expanded into a daycare and boarding facility. Their services include hiking, daycare, boarding club, training, and bathing. I feel that this ad is very fun and playful. But, instead of using the typical ad where the animals are in cages with their big sad eyes being the center of attention. This ad uses a different approach where the dog (Molly) is speaking throughout the ad and is telling the audience her life. She goes into detail that she became homeless and fought other dogs while out on the streets. But, after she got rescued and all fixed up, that she was back to her old self and was very excited for another family.
This is a direct contrast to the second half of the story, where people are described to be disturbed, grim, and bleak. The events also take place during the night, which symbolizes the death of innocence and creates an ominous atmosphere. Based on these examples from the text, I believe Shirley Jackson was setting up the tone of the story to begin as happy and light, in order for the dark reveal at the end to be more dramatic and ominous. She wanted her readers to feel surprised by the sudden twist, subverting their expectations and causing them to shift their mood from happy to disturbing.

In the book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, Mark Haddon shifts Christopher’s outlook on honesty and changed his outlook dramatically. My observation took place at The lost dog cafe and my focus was mainly on the host welcoming customers. I started my observation at 6 pm and it took me two hours to complete my assessment. I was sitting at an high top chair right at the front of the restaurant which limited my eyesight to the back part of the restaurant. I decided to sit up front since I assumed the host would be standing at the front of the restaurant but soon I found out that she occasionally went to the back part on the restaurant to guide customers or walk the host down to their table when the restaurant is really busy which caused me to not have full view and leading to my observation being limited to the front half of The Lost Dog Cafe.
