The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time , " is a mystery novel written by Mark Haddon in 2003 . The protagonist is a boy by the name of Christopher John Francis Boone who is only fifteen years . Christopher finds a dead dog , Wellington , in his neighborhood and becomes intrigued in finding out who killed Wellington . Map A is a recreation of Christopher's environment as will as a symbolization of being independent . He struggles to become independent that involves him to earn self-confidence as to move beyond his comfort zone , by trying to solve Wellington's murder he makes efforts to speak with strangers . Map (?) . be the classroom that Christopher took the A-level math test that helped him understand the disorder of life . The novel opens with a friendly greeting with death as we are introduced to / into a murder of wellington , which prompts Christopher to think of a loved one being dead - his mother . Having no real experience of / in loss , he coped with the suddenly vanishing from earth as saying that she's gone and it's time to move on . Christopher takes no regrets not even wanting to tell her any final words . His father copes with the loss of his wife by breaking contact with her and telling Christopher she is dead . Although , Christopher finds letters addressed to him from his other the search of the novel . That flat is important as Christopher has time to reflect on the events that were currently happening and he's in a calm state of mind .
