My long term career goal is to work as an IT program manager in the healthcare industry. I envision myself working closely with technology in a healthcare setting, particularly in the pharmaceutical area. My interest in the healthcare industry stems from my time at CVS/Pharmacy. An early interest in pharmacology put me on the path to pursue a career as a pharmacist. After graduating from UC Riverside, I obtained a position as a certified pharmacy technician at CVS/Pharmacy and worked towards pursuing a career as a pharmacist. During this transitional year after my undergraduate studies, I came to realize my interest in technology as well. My time at CVS/Pharmacy has provided me with two very important insights. From the moment a patient drops off a script to the moment they pick up medication, technology is utilized in the pharmacy. RxConnect, a popular information system utilized in many pharmacies, is an electronic medical record vendor that features e-prescribing in its software. Incorporating systems such as RxConnect into the pharmacy allows for drastically reduced patient wait time, a general decrease in drug errors as well as easy storage of medical data. While such a system greatly expedites pharmacy workflow, there are still shortcomings that need to be addressed.
