Cyntoia Brown
Cyntoia Brown was a minor who was convicted of murder and robbery at the age of sixteen years old now thirty years old she is facing a remaining thirty six years in prison before she is eligible for a parole hearing. In August 2004 she murdered and robbed John Mitchell a man that was soliciting her for sex. Cyntoia was in John's bedroom where she had noticed a gun cabinet earlier, Cyntoia claimed she was resisting Johns advancement when he then turned and reached beside the bed. Cyntoia then got her pistol from her purse and shot john in the back of the head. Cyntoia claimed she feared for her life and felt it was her only option. Cyntoia did not seem to have a normal person's mind set or outlook on life she did not show remorse towards her crime even knowing that John was not reaching for a gun. Further into Cyntoia's case it was revealed that she did not have a true understanding of her right to remain silent and if she had known this she may not have confessed in the way that she did. With a lawyer there to advise her in her confession i do not believe that cyntoia's case would have been perceived the way it was. This case has recently went viral on social media when artist Rihanna tweeted about Cyntoia's case nearly ten years after she was convicted. Many A-list celebrities have been protesting for her release and petitions have been started for her sentence to be cut short and let Cyntoia free. I do believe that Cyntoia's fifty year sentence was very harsh. I
