For our Cyrano De Bergerac PBL, we decided to use poetry to convey and answer the overall main driving question. My group worked very hard on creating the poems and making sure our target audience was interested. We succeeded in our writing skills, poems were freestyle and written in a very nice way. Each poem sampled a different theme and scene in order to relate similarities to the everyday life of our target audience. Our presenting skills fell a slightly short for this project.

Julie Taymor’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream film adaptation creates a fantastical spin on the well-known Shakespeare play. The director is able to create an effective dream-like setting with the use of projections, lighting, and puppetry. From the beginning, there is a sense of wonder created, as without word or introduction, Puck, played by Kathryn Hunter, glides onto stage and lays down on a mattress supported by branches. Puck is then lifted into the air and a large white sheet consumes the stage. Even for those familiar with the play, such as myself, it immediately commands your mind to travel to the dream world Taymor has created.

Every director or actor has a different style of re-creating and presenting different narratives written by William Shakespeare. Each adaptation that has been created has had unique qualities that attempt to replicate the emotion and thought of the writing pieces. The play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, has been interpreted through many different actors each telling the tragic story in their own way. Kenneth Branagh has been able to effectively portray the character, Hamlet, through the use of a strong voice, gestures and the overall appearance of the actor within his adaptation of the play.
Action, fantasy, horror, musical, romantic comedy, these are all well know genres of films, and many popular and epic films can fit into these categories. The term genre is well known to many, but what is the difference between genres and genre films? Well, genres are a type, or category, and genre films are usually easily recognizable as part of a certain genre, (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2014). Genre films are easily recognizable because they tend to use familiar story formulas, character types, settings, and iconography (visual imagery with symbolic implications), all of which lead viewers to have certain expectations about what the movie will be like before actually watching it, (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2014). This film takes place in a span of ten years following the life of Don Corleone, the head of the Corleone Crime Family. It was a film that changed the history of cinema, introducing a very talented filmmaker and several acting legends in the telling of a story of a Sicilian Crime Family.

This film/musical was not what I expected when I found out that it was the sequel to “The Phantom of the Opera” I was excited when I found out about it but was disappointed once I watched it.
