My interest in cytopathology sparked during my first month of pathology training when we were called for a parotid mass fine needle aspiration, it was a case of mammary analogue secretory carcinoma, seeing my attending describe the morphology of the cells to render that diagnosis, was not only inspiring but also exciting.
Since that moment I waited eagerly for my first cytopathology rotation . I enjoyed every second of my cytology and FNA rotations where I was able to gain hands on experience performing FNAs, and I also realized how crucial is the patient interaction in this specialty for which my previous experience as a clinician gave me great advantage.
Cytopathology is an extremely challenging field that pushes a diagnostician to integrate the clinical, morphologic and immunophenotypic features of each disease to reach the correct diagnosis. The …show more content…

And I continued to develop throughout my residency, presenting abstracts at CAP and ASCP meetings, being fortunate enough to obtain a travel award for ASCP 2017 meeting. Also, I was also able to contribute to our residency program through my interest in informatics, since I have been actively involved with the maintenance and improvement of our program’s website. I believe that my informatics knowledge will be advantageous in my career as a cytopathologist.
In my quest to become a competent cytopathologist, I want to continue to improve my knowledge and diagnostic skills. I am confident that a fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Cytopathology Department would provide me with a tremendous opportunity to pursue my interests, help me to achieve my dreams and refine my skills as a diagnostic cytopathologist. In return, I hope to bring to the program my strong work ethic, a passion to learn, pleasant personality, and a diverse work
