The D- Day invasions took place on June 6th 1944 in Normandy. It was an attack that was lead by General Eisenhower in order for the US, British, and Canadian forces to gain back European land, and to push the Germans further from success. The Soldiers that would be taking part in this invasion would have to practise day after day for months before they would be able to go and fight. They had to make sure they were familiar and comfortable with their surroundings so that on the day they would know exactly what to do. It was an attack which helped the allies to be successful despite the fact that it was the beach which had the worst experience on D-DAY. Omaha Beach is a large beach which stretches out for 5 miles, and Was a mid point for 2 other beaches used during the attack; Utah and Gold beach. The point of capturing Omaha beach was so that they could gain back European land,and to connect omaha to gold and Utah beach. It was a successful plan and attack in the end because of where the Beach was, and because of the weakness of the Germans.Omaha beach was a point which in a way connected 3 main places used on D- DAY. it was a mid point in between Gold Beach, Utah Beach and Pointe du hoc. Because of its location being in between other important points it was a great advantage for attackers who were planning their invasion.Having Omaha beach be in between it meant that there would not be too far to go between the 3 attacking points, and it would be easier to keep track of the invasion. The location was also very beneficial for a successful attack because once they had won over Omaha Beach they were near to Pointe du hoc where they would be able to go and attack next.
